Sustainability at American Tourister
In 1933, our founder took a bold leap, investing his life savings to turn his dream into reality—creating accessible, high-quality luggage that would open the world to more people, empowering them to explore, experience and grow.
Nearly 100 years later, we remain driven by that same spirit of ambition and adventure. As a globally trusted brand, we are working to make our bold products even more durable and with more sustainable materials as we empower the next generation to dream bigger, go further and build brighter futures.
Go For More. Go with American Tourister.

PRODUCT
Our products are made to go the distance. We’re continuously enhancing durability and using more sustainable materials, while keeping our bags at an accessible price point.

Durability Through Every Journey
Our products undergo rigorous testing for durability and reliability. Many of our manufacturing partners have on-site labs that conduct strict quality trials to meet our standards.
A SELECTION OF WHAT WE TEST
Drop
Luggage is weighted and repeatedly dropped onto its wheels and shell from various heights to evaluate impact resistance.
Zips
Zips are opened and closed thousands of times to verify durability.
Wheels
Suitcases are rolled over rough terrain for extended distances to assess wheel endurance and performance.
Handle
Shoulder straps, bag handles and pull handles undergo repeated lifting and jerking motions to test their strength and durability.
Temperature & Humidity
Products are exposed to extreme temperatures and humidity levels to evaluate their resilience under diverse environmental conditions.
Tumble
Luggage is placed in a large rotating machine, tumbling over wooden and metal obstacles to replicate real-world baggage handling.

Incorporating Recycled Materials
We’re working to incorporate more recycled materials into our luggage and bags, taking steps toward reducing our footprint and giving waste a new life. In our future lines, we are committed to further increasing the use of more sustainable materials while delivering the vibrant, durable luggage you love.
While some of our products include recycled materials, we are increasing the number of products that incorporate recycled materials in other key components such as the outer shell. In 2024, the weight of recycled materials incorporated in our products range from 0% to 35%.
PLANET
Exploring the world opens doors to extraordinary experiences. That’s why we’re working to reduce our impact on the planet, identifying efforts to further reduce our footprint.

100% Renewable Electricity
We achieved 100% renewable electricity across our owned and operated retail stores, manufacturing and distribution facilities and offices for the first time in 2023, two years ahead of our target date. We achieved this through a combination of on-site solar generation, participation in green power programmes, and purchasing renewable energy certificates. We’re also proud to have on-site solar arrays at our manufacturing facility in Nashik, India, and at our distribution centre in Oudenaarde, Belgium.
By choosing renewable electricity, we’re taking a direct step to reduce emissions.

More Sustainable Materials And Packaging
To reduce our footprint, we're working to incorporate more recycled materials into our products. And to reduce waste, we have defined sustainable packaging principles across the organisation: Reduce material use, use reusable and recyclable packaging, and prioritise more sustainable materials where possible. In 2025, we will begin rolling these out across our operations.
PEOPLE
Guided by the Golden Rule of treating others how we wish to be treated, we’re empowering our employees to go for more and we're promoting fair and safe working conditions in our supply chain.

Growth for Our Employees
We’re committed to empowering our team members with opportunities to grow. We have achieved our goal of offering professional development opportunities to all employees by the end of 2024—a year ahead of schedule. Through initiatives like leadership training, skills development and performance management tools, we’re helping our employees unlock their potential and take their careers to new heights.
Creating brighter futures for the people who make our journey possible.

Our Commitment to Culture & Inclusion
We are a global brand, and our culture comprises many nationalities and backgrounds. We strive to make sure that American Tourister is a welcoming place and that we create a workplace environment and business culture that helps our teams grow and thrive together.
Our bi-annual Culture & Inclusion Survey provides valuable perspectives from our teams. Guided by this feedback, we are committed to prioritising innovation, recognition, professional development and teamwork as key areas for ongoing growth.

Ethical Working Conditions Across Our Supply Chain
To promote fair and safe working conditions for the people we rely on, we work closely with our supplier.
Our Ethical Charter
We require all suppliers of finished goods, as well as certain raw material and component suppliers to sign our Ethical Charter, a formal policy designed to safeguard workers within our supply chain. Additionally, we expect our suppliers to extend these expectations throughout their own supply networks.
Global Social Compliance Program
We enroll a subset of supplier into our Global Social Compliance Program to be audited. We conduct various activities such as supplier training throughout the year to promote a greater understanding of social compliance topics and improve supplier performance in subsequent certification and audits.
